A Story of Not Giving Up

Darren and his wife were recommended to us by close family to sell their home — after almost 12 months with another local agent that delivered zero offers, barely any interest, and only a handful of viewings.

They needed a change.

We put them back on the market — crafted a beautiful advert, told their story, and created visuals that actually did their home justice.

The decision of who to sell to was left to me. The buyers were a family new to the UK from Dubai — and no one was taking them seriously. Something about their story resonated with me. I felt compelled to help them.

Their mortgage broker — and I’ll tell this story properly another day — turned out to be more scam artist than broker. He spun stories I’ve never heard in over 20 years in this business. Lies, excuses, delays. The mortgage offer never arrived.

Meanwhile, my sellers had already handed in their notice at work, shipped their belongings, and booked one-way tickets to South Africa. They trusted us to deliver. And now, with just weeks left, the deal collapsed. The buyers pulled out.

F*… what now?

I told the sellers straight — we had to start again. Worst case, it would add three months to their timeline. I knew they were unemployed, still paying a mortgage, and depending on us.

So, we went again. More viewings. More offers.
But deep down, I wasn’t done with my original buyers. I knew I could still fix it.

I called my own mortgage team. Told them to make it happen.
And Rebecca, my broker, delivered what the previous one couldn’t — a full mortgage offer in just 4 days.

We brought the original buyers back. We exchanged within two weeks — cutting it insanely fine — and completed a few days later. The sellers caught their flight. Everyone won.

And me? I sat back knowing I’d done everything humanly possible to get this done.

Yes, I got paid. But it was never about the money. Money comes and goes. Relationships — trust — that lasts a lifetime.

Some sales are easy.
Some are hard.
But with us — we persevere.
